Nature and man have worked together to shape the North Norfolk coast  - with wide sandy beaches fringed by dunes and pine woods giving way to creeks and salt marshes that are sanctuary for thousands of birds.

Thornham

Thornham has a long ‘smuggling’ history and oozes character.  Traditional flint cottages, fabulous walks, fresh sea air, sandy beaches and three welcoming inns serving fine food and ales.  There is a fabulous village shop selling every day necessities, local produce, papers, and gifts.  The North Norfolk Coastal Path is a National Trail and it passes along the edge of the village.  A notable structure at the harbours edge is the coal barn, looking strangely isolated at the water’s edge it has been the focus of many artists work.

Places to visit nearby

Brancaster and Brancaster Staithe located a few miles down the coast offer fabulous sailing, well stocked chandleries, two traditional pubs, several road-side fishmongers selling locally caught fish, a golf course and a programme of outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy.

The neighbouring village of Titchwell is famous for its unique bird reserve and for those wanting a more traditional seaside experience; the coastal town of Hunstanton is only 4 miles away and just beyond that you will find the Sandringham Estate.

Burnham Market is a picturesque village located a few miles inland and supplies adequate provision for those seeking an interesting place to wander with fabulous art galleries, craft shops, delicatessens and opportunities to sample fine food.  Further along the coast you will find a stunning walk along the sea wall out to the beach at Burnham Overy Staithe with a ferry service to Scolt Head.

The well known and loved beach at Holkham is well worth a visit and a bit further on you will find Morston where you can join a boat ttip to see the seals in their natural environment.  Blakeney is a fabulous quayside village full of character and Wells Next the Sea a traditional small seaside town with a miniture railway out to the beach are two more places not to be missed.
